Democracy
- Children are involved in democratic processes eg voting for school councillors.
- The school council is led by a member of staff and adhere to democratic processes. It regularly consults with other members of the school.
- Children use the school code of conduct as a basis to define the rules within their own classrooms
Individual Liberty
- Children have many opportunities to make choices knowing that they are in a safe and supportive school environment and helping children to develop the sense of community.
- Children are encouraged to understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms as in e-safety and circle times in order to understand how their choices can affect them.
- There are planned opportunities for children to make individual choices within the curriculum and in extra-curricular activities.
Mutual Respect
- Our PSHE curriculum embodies values of mutual respect and resilience.
- Respect is embedded in our school in the relationships between adults, children and between adults and children.
- Mutual respect is promoted through special responsibilities and reward systems across the school.
Acceptance of those of different faiths and beliefs
- Our RE curriculum provides a broad and balanced education on a range of faiths, religions and cultures with an emphasis on Christianity as required by the Essex Agreed Syllabus.
- We teach key celebrations such as Diwali, Easter and Chinese New Year through assemblies and special days.
- We welcome visitors from a variety of religions and cultures to lead assemblies and curriculum events.
- We encourage children to talk about their own beliefs and listen to those of others within a supportive and non judgemental setting.
The Rule of Law
- We have a clearly structured behaviour policy which all stakeholders understand and follow. This is underpinned by our school code of conduct which provides a clear message to all members of the school community.
- The curriculum provides children with opportunities to develop moral concepts and values eg personal rights and responsibilities, truth, justice, equality of opportunity and right and wrong.
- The school has links with the local police and fire service which helps to reinforce the rule of law.
